Baby Ryan Rockwell

Baby Katie Rockwell
See my sister Katie's website, too!

Born 8:16:30 PM, 15 December 2006, La Jolla, California.

8 pounds, 12.2 ounces (3,975g). 20" (51 cm).

The technical gobbledygook after each shot is the equipment I used for each photo. Many photographer friends ask.

Ryan in stroller

Baby Ryan asleep after a tough walk, 10:45AM. (Nikon D3, 50mm f/1.8 AF-D, NEUTRAL with +1 saturation picture control, normal ADR, auto A6 WB, Aperture-priority at f/2 chose 1/30, Auto ISO chose ISO 280.)

Baby Ryan opening door

Ryan's favorite toy: mom's car. Ryan knows how to say "Vul-va!" (baby talk for Volvo), then run around the house trying to get us to take him to it, reach in my pocket and grab my keys, grab the remote and press ULNOCK. Once unlocked, Ryan knows how to pull the flippy-handle (another safety feature of Mercedes: Ryan still hasn't figured out how to pull Mercedes-style door handles all the way open) and then grab the door in the open crack and pull it the rest of the way open.

Ryan will then adjust the electric seat. He scoots it all the way forward, lifts it all the way, and moves the seat back far forward. We didn't teach him this: he teaches himself by trying everything without fear. How do you think daddy learns everything? by trying everything to see what happens.

Baby Ryan and the Radio

(Nikon D3, Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 AF with 1A skylight filter, NEUTRAL with +1 saturation picture control, normal ADR, auto A1 WB, Program auto chose 1/125 at f/5.6 (top) and f/4 (bottom), Auto ISO chose ISO 200, crosshair focus mode.)

22 July 2008, Tuesday

We thought Ryan was just fooling around with the power seat controls in mom's car. No; in fact, he was adjusting the seat forward and up to fit himself better! We think he's just started to wave goodbye to people.

Ryan's been nodding "Yes!" for about a week. He understands perfect English, even if he doesn't say much.

Ryan takes good care of his sister. Along with many Vulcan mind-melds, he'll put her Binky back in her mouth.

Ryan and bottle

Ryan playing with a bottle. In this case, its a bottle of the Eastern Sierra's famed Crystal Geyser (Olancha-sourced) water. (Nikon D3, 50mm f/1.4 AF-D, NEUTRAL with +1 saturation picture control, normal ADR, auto A4 WB, Program auto chose 1/125 at f/1.4, Auto ISO chose ISO 900.)

10 July 2008, Thursday

Ryan is now pretty good at sneaking a DVD out of a drawer, opening the case, opening the DVD player drawer, popping in the DVD, and getting it to start.

09 July 2008, Wednesday

Ryan understands perfect English. For instance, if I ask him to lift up his left foot in the bath so I can wash it, he does. If we ask him to get us something from the fridge, he does.

He still doesn't say much. His favorite words are Yaya! for TV, along with mama and dada.

Today in his bath, he now knows how to unscrew the cap from his baby toothpaste, squeeze it onto his baby toothbrush, brush away, and put the cap back on.

Baby Ryan in wagon

(Nikon D3, 50mm f/1.4 AF-D, NEUTRAL with +1 saturation picture control, normal ADR, auto A3 WB, Program auto chose 1/500 at f/2 (because program was accidentally shifted as the D3 rubbed against dad carrying this all to the park), Auto ISO chose ISO 200.)

03 July 2008, Thursday

Today Ryan snuck in my office, and I saw him out of the corner of my eye grab something form the desk drawer. I followed him, and discovered he had nabbed a screwdriver and was proceeding to unscrew the battery door from his remote control car which needs new batteries. Not bad for an 18-month old who can't even talk.

New words: Ryan has said "Hi!," and also uses the word "ice" for his beverages.

He understands perfect english. While I was following around and he lost a part of the tool, I asked him where it was. He pointed to a corner, and lo and behold, there it was!
