I tried this lens once at Burney Falls, on my April 2009 trip.

9 sloppy diaphragm blades
Nice zoom
Can't zoom through
1.6ft/0.5m, but only to about 100mm
VR seems OK but noisy
I also tried the Tamron SP AF 14mm:

Feels crappy
Plastic sticker for ID
Nice focus clutch
