20 January 2013, Monday top Today Ryan wants to hit the gym again first thing in the morning. Ryan Rides the Fake Bike, 10:06 AM. (Fuji X100S, flash ON, f/2 at 1/125 at ISO 1,250.) After Ryan's ride, we left Los Gatos and rode down the US 101 to San Luis Obispo, and the legendary Madonna Inn: Madonna Inn Spiral Staircase, 4:58 PM. (Fuji X100S, f/3.6 at 1/160 at ISO 200.) I used Photoshop's Lens Correction Tool to correct converging verticals. Once we arrived, the kids couldn't resist running up and down it: Ryan and Katie Run up the Spiral Staircase, 5:03 PM. (Fuji X100S, flash ON, f/2 at 1/125 at ISO 200.) If I had to fiddle with settings, I'd never have caught this.
Katie In The Curve, 5:04 PM. (Fuji X100S, flash ON, f/2.2 at 1/125 at ISO 200.)
Ryan Checks Out the Madonna Inn Safari Room, 5:06 PM. (Fuji X100S, flash on, f/2 at 1/125 at ISO 6,400.)
The Madonna Inn at Night, 5:54 PM. (Fuji X100S, f/2 at 1/30 at ISO 1,200.)
Madonna Inn Palms at Night, 5:59 PM. (Fuji X100S, f/2 at 1/52 at ISO 6,400.) As always, sharp and clean at ISO 6,400 and wide-open at f/2, where few cameras go. The sky is blue because it's not quite completely dark; it's towards the end of magic hour.
Madonna Inn at Night, 6:00 PM. (Fuji X100S, f/2 at 1/120 at ISO 6,400.)
Little Katie Looks For Cookies, 6:04 PM. (Fuji X100S, f/2 at 1/125 at ISO 2,000.)
Alex Madonna's Steakhouse, 6:06 PM. (Fuji X100S panoramic mode, f/2 at 1/125 at ISO 6,400.) Much larger (the original is twice the dimensions of even the bigger link!) No tripod is needed for the panorama mode; just swipe the camera — and I can set this mode without taking the X100S from my eye.
The Madonna Inn Urinal, 6:08 PM. (Fuji X100S panoramic mode, f/2 at 1/125 at ISO 5,000.)
Ryan and Katie Check Out the Madonna Inn Urinal, 6:11 PM. (Fuji X100S, f/2 at 1/125 at ISO 6,400.)
McLintock's San Luis Obispo, 7:06 PM. (Fuji X100S panoramic mode, f/2 at 1/110 at ISO 5,000.) Much larger (the original is twice the dimensions of even the bigger link!) For this panorama, I tilted the X100S up so I saw more of what's up on the wall and less of people's feet. The X100S automatically corrects the image; you don't have to point the camera at the horizon. The X100S does the equivalent of what a shifting lens does on a view or traditional rotating-lens panoramic camera.
Katie's Coloring, 7:10 PM. (Fuji X100S, f/8 at 1/800 at ISO 200 in broad daylight the next day.)
McLintock's Baron-of-Higuera Wall-of-Fame, 7:29 PM. (Fuji X100S, f/2 at 1/125 at ISO 6,400.)
Early Man Surveys His World, Cave Man Room, Madonna Inn, 8:45 PM. (Fuji X100S, f/2 at 1/125 at ISO 6,400.) The Madonna Inn's rooms are loaded with custom stained glass. In this case, we saw this as we walked past the Cave Man Room. The Kids Check Out The Heated Pool, 9:02 PM. (Fuji X100S, f/2 at 1/28 at ISO 6,400.) After checking out the pool, it was off to the workout area again. Katie Pulls The Whole Stack, 9:13 PM. (Fuji X100S, f/2 at 1/125 at ISO 3,200.)
Infinite Katie as Ryan Walks, 9:17 PM. (cropped from Fuji X100S, f/2 at 1/125 at ISO 3,200.)
Ryan Pulls The Whole Stack, and The Stack Pulls Him, 9:20 PM. (Fuji X100S, f/2 at 1/125 at ISO 2,500.)
That's all for today. NEXT ->> 21 January 2014, Tuesday
