Today the group rose before the dawn and rode from Phoenix, Arizona to Monument Valley.

I snapped this as I walked from breakfast to my room. I set a manual white balance on the sign; it was easy to do as Steve waited for me to come pick him up and head over to the good hotel where the others stayed.

Snapped with a hand-held 2009 Canon S90, Auto ISO chose ISO 1,600, Program Auto chose f/2 at 1/15, lens at 6mm (28mm equivalent), manually set WB with some added amber.

Wow, they aren't subtle in Arizona. If you don't belong, you're going to get shot, politely.

Snapped with a hand-held 2009 Canon S90, ISO 80, Program Auto chose f/4 at 1/500, 6mm (28mm equivalent), AWB with added amber, -2/3 exposure compensation.

We had no light. It was overcast and it was all gray to the eye.

I made it this red by setting the White Balance to a lot of added amber (A). This is easy to do with the setting ring of the S90 whenever WB is selected. If I was paying attention, I'd have stepped much closer to the rocks in the foreground.

Snapped with a hand-held 2009 Canon S90, Program Auto chose f/3.5 at 1/80, forced ISO 80 because I knocked the rear dial, lens set to 7.5mm (35mm equivalent, )crazy manual WB with even more amber, no exposure compensation, no flash.
