Wednesday, 21 October 2009: Yosemite

The Ahwahnee

Great Room, The Ahwahnee, Yosemite National Park, 10:27 AM.

Full-resolution © JPG (6.6 MB) from DNG (18 MB).

Shot with a hand-held 2009 LEICA M9 and a 1998 LEICA 21mm f/2.8 ELMARIT-M ASPH, ISO 800, 1/15 at f/4, Tageslicht (Daylight) WB.

Depth of field is limited by the wide f/4 aperture, and sharpness limited by my own ability to hold the camera steady while standing in front of the huge fire in the gargantuan fireplace.

Amoeba Sucking Light

Amoeba Sucking Light, behind The Ahwahnee, Yosemite National Park, 10:39 AM.

Grab shot made with a hand-held 2009 LEICA M9 and a 1970 LEICA 50mm f/2 SUMMICRON, Auto ISO 160, 1/45, Kelvin WB.

Mountain Room

Inside The Mountain Room, Yosemite National Park, 6:39 PM. bigger.

Snapped with a hand-held LEICA M9 and a 1965 LEICA 35mm f/2 SUMMICRON, ISO 800, f/2 at 1/3 second, Auto WB.

This 45-year-old prime double-Gauss variant 35mm lens doesn't have the distortion of today's newest retrofocus or zoom SLR lenses, so the straight lines stay perfectly straight.

Thursday, 22 October 2009: Yosemite to Bridgeport

Rainbow Butte

Rainbow Butte, Yosemite Falls, Yosemite National Park, 8:23 AM.

Snapped with a hand-held LEICA M9 and a 1961 LEICA 135mm f/4 ELMAR, ISO 320, 1/350 second at probably f/5.6, Kelvin WB.

Lines

Road by Walker River Reservoir, Bridgeport, California, 4:38 PM.

Snapped with a 2009 LEICA M9 and a 1961 LEICA 135mm f/4 ELMAR, ISO 800, 1/350 probably at f/11, 7000 Kelvin WB.

Walker River

North of by Walker River Reservoir, Bridgeport, California, 5:09 PM.

Snapped with a hand-held 2009 LEICA M9 and a 1961 LEICA 135mm f/4 ELMAR, ISO 250, 1/350 probably at f/11, 7000 Kelvin WB.

Darn, this 50-year old cheapie lens looks wunderbar on the M9's American-made sensor! Remember, when it was new, this lens originally sold for the equivalent of over $1,000.

The Sportsmen's Inn, Bridgeport, California

The Sportsmen's Inn, Bridgeport, California 7:54 PM.

Full-resolution © JPG (4.7 MB) from kamera-original © DNG (18 MB).

Snapped with a hand-held 2009 LEICA M9 and a 1998 LEICA 21mm f/2.8 ELMARIT-M ASPH, ISO 800, 1/8 of a second, Tageslicht (Daylight) WB.

Remember, at f/4, there is little depth-of-field, and 1/8 hand-held probably isn't as sharp as a tripod. The key here is that I can make these shots while walking down the street seemingly without a camera at all!
