Today we started on the west side of Tomales Bay.

Snapped with a Canon SD980 IS. 21.5mm maximum zoom (120mm equivalent), f/5.9 (wide-open) at 1/125, Auto ISO cleverly chose ISO 125 to give a short enough exposure time for the long zoom. original © file.

The color is OK on digital, but let's look at the same thing shot on Velvia.

I shot this with a Contax 645 and Zeiss Planar T* 35mm f/3.5 (equivalent to a 21mm lens on 35mm film) with a 95mm Schneider 81-One warming filter on 220 size Fuji Velvia film (original formula) in a vacuum back at 1/180 at f/8, Av exposure mode.

I added +0.3 stops of exposure compensation, imprinted on the film edge for posterity.

I don't know about you, but I certainly prefer these colors on Velvia to the colors above on digital. Digital usually looks better than film when you're dealt iffy light, like moonlight, but when the light's the way you want it for the best shots, Velvia rules.

I shot this with a Contax 645 and a Zeiss Sonnar T* 140mm f/2.8 (equivalent to an 85mm lens on 35mm film) with a 72mm Nikon A2 warming filter on 220 size Fuji Velvia film (original formula) in a vacuum back at 1/250 at f/11, Av exposure mode.

I added +0.7 stops of exposure compensation, again, imprinted on the film edge big enough to read without a loupe, and small enough to stay on the film edge without impinging on the image area.

After this, we headed home.
