Nikon 50mm
Lens Comparison
© 2006 KenRockwell.com
Index of individual test pages COLOR RENDITION All these lenses are multicoated and match each other to within one or two 8-bit quantization steps. Feel free to import these full-frame images on an expodisc into your software if you want to analyze them. These were shot in manual preset white balance on my D200. If I had to say anything, it's that they all match, and the 55 Micro is warmer by one or two q-steps when I looked at the data values in Photoshop's info pallet. Each of these reduced images is saved at 100% quality in ImageReady, so you have the full data. SUMMARY Don't worry. All of these match. A skylight filter has far more of an effect on color than any difference between any of these lenses. The 1969 f/1.4 non-AI lens wouldn't fit my D200. It is single coated in amber. It may have been cooler, but I couldn't test it. PLUG I spent almost two months shooting and writing this comparison of 50mm lenses. No one pays me for this. If you find this as helpful as a book you might have had to buy or a workshop you may have had to take, feel free to help me write more with a donation. Thanks for reading!
